Welcome to your local guide to staying in Beer
When friends or family come to stay with us at Sea Holly House, these are the places we always recommend first. Nothing over-planned and nothing too far away — just the best of Beer and the surrounding coastline, enjoyed at an easy pace.
This page brings together our personal favourites to help you settle in quickly and enjoy the area the way we do.
Coastal walks we never tire of
If you do one walk while you’re here, make it the Coastal Walks from Beer along the Jurassic Coast. The stretch towards Branscombe is especially special — open views, dramatic cliffs, and that sense of space you only really get by the sea.
We love starting this walk straight from the house and taking it at an easy pace.
Early morning swims & relaxed breakfasts
For an early start, Ducky’s Famous Beach Café in Beer is our go-to.
If you’re up early, 8–9am is perfect — it’s calm, quiet, and ideal after a sea swim. Coffee, breakfast, and watching the village slowly wake up is one of our favourite ways to start the day.
You should also head back for lunch to try their local Beer Crab Sandwich or afternoon tea!
Where we go for a drink in the evening
For a proper local pint, The Barrel of Beer is hard to beat. It’s relaxed, friendly, and feels like a real village pub rather than somewhere aimed at visitors.
If you’re after a pub garden with a view, The Anchor Inn looks straight out over Beer Beach and does a great Sunday roast.
For an easy, all-round option — especially with children — The Dolphin Inn is a great choice. It’s welcoming, relaxed, good value, and works just as well for families as it does for a casual evening drink.
Local Seafood and Grassfed Meats for nights at home
One of the joys of staying here is cooking with local produce. Beer Fisheries is where we head for fresh seafood to take back to the house.
Simple food, great ingredients, and a relaxed evening in.
If you're looking for great local meats, head over to Taste of Devon Butchers, in Seaton, just a 5 minute drive or 30 minute coastal walk.
A special night out
For something a little more celebratory, Steamers Restaurant in Beer is our pick for a special occasion.
Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or just treating yourselves while you’re here.
Sauna sessions & slow coastal days
One of our favourite combinations is a coastal walk towards Branscombe followed by time at The Jurassic Sauna at Branscombe Beach.
Walk, breathe, warm up, cool off, repeat — especially good outside peak summer.
Days out with children
With our daughter, The Donkey Sanctuary near Beer is always a winner. It’s calm, open, and surprisingly relaxing for adults too.
Good weather beach days
On calm, sunny days, hiring a boat from Beer Beach is a brilliant way to enjoy the bay and see the coastline from the water.
It turns a simple beach day into something really memorable.
A little browse in the village
If you enjoy a wander around independent shops, Umma Gumma Boutique Beer is a favourite of ours — thoughtfully curated and perfect for picking up something a bit different to take home.

Take it slow
You don’t need to do everything. Some of the best days here are the unplanned ones — a walk that turns into a long lunch, or a swim that ends with coffee and nowhere else to be.
We hope this guide helps you enjoy Beer the way we do.
