Introduction by Mikey and Cherie
Explore Beer Devon started for a very simple reason: we kept seeing people arrive in Beer unsure how to make the most of their time here. Too many guides tried to cover all of Devon, and hardly any focused properly on what makes Beer special.
We created Explore Beer Devon to be the guide we wished existed — calm, practical, and centred entirely around Beer and the surrounding Jurassic Coast, without overwhelming people with endless lists or unrealistic itineraries.
Why We Chose Beer, Devon
Beer isn’t a big place, and that’s exactly why we love it. It’s a traditional coastal village with a strong fishing heritage, dramatic cliffs, and a pace that encourages you to slow down almost immediately.
You can walk everywhere, step straight onto the coast path from the village, and enjoy beaches, pubs, and viewpoints without needing to plan every hour. For us, Beer works best when you let it unfold naturally — and that’s the experience we wanted this site to reflect.
Living in Beer as a Family
Before Explore Beer Devon existed, we lived in Beer full-time with our young daughter for over two years while preparing to launch Sea Holly House. That time gave us a very real understanding of what daily life in Beer is actually like — not just as visitors, but as a family.
Living here meant learning which walks work with little legs, which beaches feel calmer at different times of day, and how the village changes with the seasons. Those lived experiences shape everything we share on this site, especially guides around visiting Beer with children and planning realistic short breaks.
Why We Started Explore Beer Devon
We noticed that most visitors asked the same questions again and again: what are the best things to do, which beaches are worth visiting, where should we eat, and how do we fit it all into a short stay?
Explore Beer Devon exists to answer those questions clearly and honestly. Whether you’re looking for ideas on things to do in Beer, planning coastal walks, or deciding how to spend a long weekend, our aim is to help you feel confident without over-planning.
How We Approach Guides and Itineraries
Rather than listing everything, we focus on how things actually fit together. A beach in the morning, a coastal walk after lunch, a relaxed evening back in the village — the sort of days people genuinely enjoy here.
That’s why itineraries sit at the heart of the site. The Beer Devon itineraries section is designed to help you structure your time while still leaving space to slow down and follow your instincts once you arrive.
Who Explore Beer Devon Is For
This site is for anyone who wants to experience Beer properly. Families will find practical advice throughout the site, walkers can explore routes via the Jurassic Coast walks section, and first-time visitors can get their bearings without feeling overwhelmed.
We also include guides to nearby highlights such as the best beaches near Beer and responsible fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast, so you can explore confidently and respectfully.
Sea Holly House Today
Sea Holly House began as our full-time home and is now enjoyed as a holiday home alongside being let to guests. Because we’ve lived there ourselves — and still return to enjoy it as a family — everything about it reflects how we like to stay in Beer: comfortable, walkable, and close to the coast.
Staying locally makes a huge difference to how Beer feels, especially in the early mornings and quieter evenings when the village really comes into its own.
You can see availability for Sea Holly House and other places to stay here.
